Every lives in the city are positive. I always think that the negative ones are hidden or even hide beneath the shadow.

Sketches

I made a lot of efforts, at first I wrote down the secrets that lingered in my head. In my imagination, the main character is a delightful person who loves music, sports and animals, but under the skin, he is a totally different person. I think that from the moment I drew it down till seeing by the viewers, is a process of paraphrasing. But to me-the person involved, it is no surprise that the secrets get exaggerated and scary.

Concept

To me, this installation is the combination of my life in the past time. It’s good-looking on the outside, but if you take a close look, you can gradually see those secrets which he rather keep in himself than sharing with others. Because they are secrets, those images will be presented exaggeratedly and precisely just like a poetic existence that hiding beneath the shadow of aesthetic.

Idea

Through this installation, I want to let people feel like they’re prying into some secrets that no one ever knows. Thus, there are two ways to watch the installation. First one is to watch the images that “Exist” through the gap; the other one is to watch the “virtual” images after projecting by touching and rotating the installation. To me, both of them make me feel like peeking.

The appearance of the installation looks like shadow, which the images hiding in it. People always have to peek in it or watch the images in it by using the projector. The images will be monitored first by the camera then projected by the projector. The original image will be enlarged and become grainy, just like the fact that the secrets will become more and more fictional by paraphrasing.
